A patch panel or patch bay is a panel, typically rack mounted, that houses cable connections. One typically shorter patch cable will plug into the front side, whereas the back holds the connection of a much longer and more permanent cable.
Patch panel is the most important part of management subsystem, is the hub to achieve the connection of Vertical lines and horizontal cabling. Patch panel is usually installed in the cabinet or wall. Through the installation of accessories, patch panels can be across the board to meet the UTP, STP, coaxial cable, fiber optic, audio and video needs. UTP patch panel and optical fiber patch panel are the most widely used patch panels in network engineering.
Patch panel works for the cross-connection with cables in management subsystem, especially used between the main cables and minor cables. There are a lot of patch panel models. Each manufacturer has its own patch panel. Most of them are CAT3 patch panel, CAT5 patch, CAT6 patch panel, CAT7 patch panel, CAT5E patch panel. In specific projects, should refer to product manuals, based on the actual situation configuration.
